Winthrop Development Consultants was the proud sponsor of the Microsoft Dynamics GP track at the recent DynamicsCon Virtual March 2023 conference. Part of the conference sponsorship package required us to create a 60 second video advert for Winthrop Development Consultants.
Thanks to Carol Livingston from Dynamics Connections who recommended the great tool Renderforest which was used to eventually create four new videos, including two shortened one-minute versions.

Winthrop Development Consultants products are sold using an annual subscription model which means they need to have their subscription renewed and updated each year to remain functional.
This process is usually fairly smooth and transparent as long as the invoice is paid by the due date and the system is internet connected. Invoices are due one month before the expiry date so that if they are paid on time, the subscription is renewed automatically before any expiry warnings are displayed.

Back in August 2022 we announced that after 7 years, we would be increasing the module pricing for Winthrop Development Consultants products, specifically GP Power Tools and Batch Posting Service Toolkit.

I am often asked to change the contact details for the registration data for our products. These contact details are used for sending emails from Winthrop Development Consultants.
Emails sent include Renewal Notices and Invoices to partners and direct customers, and update notices and newsletters to all customers (cc’d to their partners).
It is vital that the contact details use a valid (and unique) email address for each registration record. The email must be for a person or team at the registered company. Partners cannot use their email addresses for customer registrations.

Recently, I have been getting a lot of requests for subscription keys for Winthrop products before upgrading to new versions of Microsoft Dynamics GP.
This article will explain how Winthrop products obtain new subscription keys automatically over the internet and what the process is if a system is not internet connected.

The latest version of Microsoft Dynamics GP was released today, and it contains a number of new features and bug fixes. Winthrop Development Consultants has already updated its products for this Microsoft Dynamics GP 18.5 – October 2022 release. They are now built against the final build and so are no longer beta builds.

This morning (Perth Time) I had an email from Terry Heley from Microsoft with a link to a pre-release (ISV Drop) of the upcoming Microsoft Dynamics GP version 18.5 (October 2022) release. This download is provided to the ISV community to help them prepare for the final code when it is released.

It has been a long time between Newsletters, but that does not mean nothing’s been happening. On the contrary, we have been really busy working hard to improve our software products with the aim of making your lives better.
This newsletter contains important information about price changes, and new releases of all our software (including a critical security update). Please forward this newsletter to anyone in your organization who would find this information useful. They can subscribe to future newsletters using the link below:

We have not changed our pricing since 2016 when the current module-based pricing was adopted with the release of Build 21 of GP Power Tools.
Since then, we have released many new builds with lots of added functionality and features in all modules of all our products, providing a massive increase in the value. So, from January 2023 there will be a minor increase in the module pricing.

We are pleased to announce that the Benefits Presentation for Winthrop Development Consultants products has been updated to match the recently released builds of GP Power Tools (GPPT), Batch Posting Service Toolkit (BPST) and Visual Studio Integration Toolkit (VSIT).

Winthrop Development Consultants was recently notified by InstallAware, the supplier of the installer software used for the distribution packages for all our products, that a Security Vulnerability was identify in their product. They have released a new version that resolves the issue.
However, the issue will exist on all machines that have used an installer built with the previous compromised versions of their installer software.
Using the newly fixed installer software, we have created and released new builds of all our products which should be installed at all customer and partner sites as soon as possible. Any build of any of our products downloaded and installed after 10-Aug-2022 contains the fix.
[Edit] Old builds with this security vulnerability were discontinued at the end of December 2023, except for final builds of old GP versions. More details below.

Winthrop Development Consultants is pleased to announce Build 12 of Batch Posting Service Toolkit (BPST) for Microsoft Dynamics GP was released on 10-Aug-2022.
This build includes a number of enhancements as well as improvements to the registration and installer systems.

We have recently released a new hotfix build for Batch Posting Service Toolkit which fixes a recently discovered issue with Inventory Transactions posted using Service Based Architecture (SBA) not showing in the Historical Inventory Trial Balance (HITB) reports.
It is recommended that all sites running Batch Posting Service Toolkit install the latest code on all workstation and servers where it is currently installed.

We had another interesting support case recently where administrator users were getting slow login performance after installing a Winthrop Development Consultants product. When a standard user logged in they did not experience any delays.
The additional delay was around 90 to 120 seconds, after which everything would appear to work as normal.

This week we had a customer contact us after they changed the Proxy Settings which are part of the Registration System in all Winthrop Development Consultants products. After the change Microsoft Dynamics GP would crash on startup, probably because the settings were incorrect.
These settings should not normally be used as the Winthrop Development Consultants registration system (which uses Quick License Manager from Soraco Technologies) can normally work with the same internet connection as needed for standard web browsing.

Over the last few days I have received a number of requests for clarification of the status of Winthrop Development Consultants’ products and whether they are at risk from the Java Log4J vulnerability that has been in the news recently.
The short answer is no.
For those who would like a bit more information read on…
