#MSDynGP The Knights of GP – Commitment beyond 2031

David Meego - Click for blog homepageWinthrop Development Consultants is fully committed to the continued support of Microsoft Dynamics GP and its ecosystem. Our ISV products are only compatible with Dynamics GP and have been created to solve pain points and missing features as requested by the GP community.

While Microsoft has stated that they will cease support for Dynamics GP in 2031, it is important to note that “End of Support” does not equate to “End of Life”. There is plenty of life left in the product and, with the support of the community, GP will live on well past the official end of support. A driving force in the community support will be the Knights of GP.

#MSOffice Hiding Email Signature Table Borders in Microsoft Outlook (Updated)

David Meego - Click for blog homepageAs much as I love and use Microsoft Products, they sometimes make bad decisions or introduce very annoying bugs. This article addresses a bug introduced on 16-Dec-2025 in Microsoft Outlook Version 2512 (Build 19530.20038 Click-to-Run) Current Channel.

The issue is that email signatures using a table will now have the border showing by default regardless of whether it was showing before the update.

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThis is an article I wrote for the recently released Fido magazine. The magazine was published in time for Community Summit 2025 in Orlando by Fidesic, who offer Payables Automation solutions for Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Go visit them at booth 1545 for the full magazine.

Thanks to Carl Robinette from Fidesic who reached out and offered the opportunity to write an article for the magazine, and to my wife, Jennifer, who helped me with multiple rewrites. 🙂

#PSA: Stop using Honey because it is a Scam

David Meego - Click for blog homepageHappy New Year.

I would not normally publish an article where I reference a specific company, but the behavior of this company, while not necessarily illegal, is deceptive and morally wrong.

A recent video expose by the YouTube Channel: MegaLag has highlighted how the Honey free browser extension works and what it is really doing behind the scenes.

#MSDynGP Microsoft Dynamics GP Forum Is Usable Again

David Meego - Click for blog homepageFor many years the Microsoft Dynamics GP Community Forum was one of the best places to get help and discuss all things relating to our wonderful Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains product.

That was until 08-Nov-2024 when Microsoft, in its wisdom, consolidated the forums and combined the Microsoft Dynamics GP forum with the Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Dynamics SL and Microsoft Dynamics 365 forums into a single forum, the Finance | Project Operations, Human Resources, AX, GP, SL Community Forum.

#MSDynGP Microsoft Dynamics GP End of Support Officially Announced

David Meego - Click for blog homepageSadly, the day has finally arrived. We knew it was coming for many years. Since the premature (since retracted) announcement by Mike Morton at Community Summit 2022, it has been expected sooner rather than later.

As of the 25th September 2024, it is official. Microsoft Dynamics GP product development will cease completely in 2031 with new feature development and product support stopping a little earlier.

#MSTeams Setting Up Microsoft Teams to Allow External Meeting Participants to Take Control (Updated)

David Meego - Click for blog homepageMicrosoft Teams is a great screen sharing tool for collaboration and support (once you can successfully log into the correct organization). However, a change made to the default policy settings a little while ago has meant that External Meeting Participants (anyone from outside of the organization) are unable to request or take control.

If you have ever had to “drive” someone through a complex set of steps when they are unfamiliar with the application’s interface, you will know that this makes support time consuming and very frustrating.

#MSOffice Changing the Aptos font back to Calibri in Microsoft Outlook (Updated)

David Meego - Click for blog homepageMicrosoft have done many great things over the years but have also made some bad (maybe awful) decisions in my opinion. This includes discontinuing Zune and Windows Phone and Xbox Kinect as well as the addition of Clippy to Office or the removal of the Start Menu in Windows 8.

However, the latest change that I am less than impressed by is the changing of the default Office font (technically Typeface) from Calibri to Aptos. This article explains how to restore Calibri as the default in Microsoft Outlook.

#MSDynGP Understanding the Modern Lifecycle for Dynamics GP

David Meego - Click for blog homepageThere have been a number of articles on the future of Microsoft Dynamics GP with the change to the Modern Lifecycle in 2021 and the announcement about ceasing new customer site sales in April 2023.

[Edit] GPUG All-Star, SQL Guru and good friend Kerry Hataley has consolidated all the information from Microsoft into a single article and also produced a Dynamics GP Consolidated Timeline based on the official Microsoft Roadmap, product lifecycle information and the April 2023 announcement.

#MSDynGP Surveys on the Future of Microsoft Dynamics GP

David Meego - Click for blog homepageIn April 2023, Microsoft announced that Microsoft Dynamics GP will not be available for sale to new customers after April 2026. While the announcement has very little effect on the existing customers, there have been lots of discussions on the future of Microsoft Dynamics GP and its client base.

Microsoft has indicated that they will be supporting the product to 2028 & Beyond. That “& Beyond” clause will be very dependent on what the existing customers using GP do. If the existing customer base continues to use GP and pay their annual enhancement fees, Microsoft’s management will be able to justify continued support beyond 2028 due to the income stream.

#MySummitNA Dynamics GP Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades

David Meego - Click for blog homepageMicrosoft Dynamics GP customers, please take this quick, anonymous Current State of Dynamics GP survey now.

For the last 25 years or so, questions have been asked about the future of Microsoft Dynamics GP. I partially based my decision to leave Winthrop Dexterity Consultants in 2000 to become a Microsoft employee because of the “imminent demise” of Dynamics GP.

Fourteen years later, when I left Microsoft and started Winthrop Development Consultants, Microsoft Dynamics GP was still well and truly alive and going strong.
