Recently my Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 installation started generating errors while navigating around the Homepage and Area Pages. I thought it was due to the recent Windows 10 1809 update, but have since learned that this was not the cause.
I temporarily fixed the issue by removing all objects from the Homepage and only using the application menus for navigation and not using the Area Pages at all.
I recently posted a method of repurposing the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 Intelligent Cloud Insights page to show a website of your choice.
However, if you are running an earlier version of Microsoft Dynamics GP you also have the option to display a custom website by repurposing the Connect pane on the user’s Homepage.
One of the main new features of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 is the option to use the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Intelligent Cloud Insights. This leverages the Business Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence and Analysis functionality in Business Central using a replicated set of GP data uploaded via the Intelligent Edge interface.
But what if you don’t want to use that functionality and would like to hide it from your users….
OK, so it is a day later than planned, but it is here. The Microsoft Dynamics GP Development team have released Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2.
Overnight, I saw the blog post from Terry Heley at Microsoft confirming that Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 has been released.
You might have seen my posts on Twitter and Facebook recently about my new toy mini laptop PC, the crowd funded GPD Pocket 2.
I have been burnt before with crowd funded projects (I supported 3 smartwatches and only one make it to production and it under-delivered 🙁 ), so I was wary of getting involved again. However, this was the second generation of the GPD Pocket and demo devices had already been delivered to a number of YouTube reviewers. I felt fairly safe to get involved with crowd funding again, as this would give me a discount and get the device earlier.
In August, I went on my annual pilgrimage to Fabulous Fargo for the Microsoft Dynamics GP Tech Conference 2018. The event was held at the Microsoft Campus in Fargo, ND, USA on the 20th to 22nd August 2018.
While smaller than previous years it was still well attended and everyone who was there found it worthwhile, both for the technical knowledge and product information provided as well as for the social and networking opportunities.
My trip to South Africa is completed and the GPUG Amplify South Africa conference is over for another year.
I am looking forward to coming back again to meet with the Microsoft Dynamics GP community in South Africa.
After a fantastic few days leading up to the conference, the first day of GPUG Amplify South Africa 2018 has finally arrived.
Jennifer accompanied me on the first day to help Angie Ryan and Katie Froeber with registration and then be there later for the end of the day when there were cocktails.
I will explain more in an article soon, but I will need to be relatively brief with my coverage of the GPUG Amplify South Africa 2018 conference. Needless to say Jennifer and I had a fantastic time in South Africa.
From my perspective, it was wonderful to have my wife along for the trip so she could meet some of the great people I work with… my “Conference Buddies”. That’s what I call my friends in the Microsoft Dynamics GP community that I only catch up with at conferences.
It has been just over a year since the last time this old chestnut was raised by someone in the community.
This time the question of Microsoft Dynamics GP’s future has been raised by Mark Brummel, who was a Microsoft MVP (Business Solutions) for the Microsoft Dynamics NAV product, and is based in the Netherlands.
One of the regular pieces of feedback I often hear from Microsoft Dynamics GP users is that they really wished that the application would remember where they want their windows positioned.
To solve this issue, in Build 22 of GP Power Tools, I added the Window Position Memory feature (released in February 2017).
A little while back I was discussing the Microsoft Dynamics GP HTML5 Web Client with an Australian Partner Consultant and he told me about an issue I was not aware of with date formats.
It turns out that the HTML5 web client does not display date formats correctly for anyone outside of North America. More specifically, the date format used in the application windows is in MM/DD/YYYY format regardless of your workstation’s regional settings.
After the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 over the weekend, I am pleased to announce that all Winthrop Development Consultants products are now available for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018.
True to their word, the Microsoft Dynamics GP Development team have released Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 as scheduled on the 1st December 2017.

At the end of July, Terry Heley from Microsoft posted the System Requirements for the upcoming Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 release.
Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 is currently scheduled for release in the December 2017 timeframe.
