To coincide with the Dexterity Fundamentals training bootcamp that is starting today in San Antonio, Texas, USA, here is a cheat list for creating window layouts that match the Microsoft Dynamics GP user interface standards.

The documentation of the user interface standards uses mathematical formulas to tell you where fields should be located. It is much simpler to use the tips in this article with the grid and offsets instead of the formulas. This article is relevant for working with Dexterity or Modifier.

Today, I was working with a customer to create a new window in their Microsoft Dynamics GP system. We were using the new Custom Forms Module added to Visual Studio Integration Toolkit Build 18 to create a blank form, which we would modify and make functional using GP Power Tools Build 30.

Using Modifier to edit the window and add the required fields was simply a matter of creating local fields of the required datatypes to match the data we wanted to display.

But then we came across an issue that almost stopped the project from proceeding…

#GPPT Stopping Vendor ID Auto Populating on Payables Transaction Window

A while back there was a forum post on the Community Forum asking how to stop the Vendor ID from automatically populating with the previously entered Vendor ID when entering Payables Transactions.

This functionality can be useful when entering multiple transactions from a single vendor, but can also cause data entry errors if entering a transaction from a different vendor and the ‘Vendor ID’ is not changed.

At first glance I thought it would simply be caused by the ‘Vendor ID’ field on the window having the object property of SavedOnRestart=True. However, that was not the case.

The next installment of DynamicsCon conference is scheduled for 20^th to 23^rd September 2021. The session submission period is over and now we enter the session voting period until 28^th July.

In recent times many Microsoft Dynamics GP sites have been having issues with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). Especially with Microsoft Office Updates breaking functionality and incompatibilities with later Windows Server releases.

There have been compatibility issues reported with sending emails via Outlook and more recently issues with VBA on Windows Server 2019.
