Microsoft Dynamics GP is just over 25 years old now and there are big plans to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The Dynamics product and its underlying development environment, Dexterity, were developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. On the 29th February 1993, Great Plains Software released its new accounting system with a GUI (Graphical User Interface), Dynamics 1.0.
The countdown is now on for the planning to celebrate 30 years of Microsoft Dynamics GP, as we now have just under five years to get everything planned.
To demonstrate the global reach of the product, it was decided to hold the celebrations as far away from Fargo, North Dakota, USA as possible. I am really excited as my home town, Perth, Western Australia was chosen.
There are a number of projects that are already being worked on in preparation for this special event including the following:
Twinning the cities of Fargo, ND, USA and Perth, WA, Australia
While Fargo is often consider a twin city to Moorhead, Minnesota, this is only because the two towns grew up on either side of the Red River. In preparation for this huge celebration, Perth and Fargo will be twinned.
Creation of a Perth World Trade Center
After a shaky start, the proposal for the new World Trade Center in Perth has been accepted and is currently going through all the approval processes. The plan is to have the new buildings ready for the Microsoft Dynamics GP anniversary celebrations. They would be the tallest buildings on the city sky line (shown on the right hand side in the image below).

Direct Flights from UK, Europe and USA
Last week, Qantas Airlines made its maiden direct flight from Perth to London with its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The flight takes just over 17 hours and is the first in a series of expansions to Qantas’ long haul flight plans. Over the coming years, direct flights will be added to Europe and to the USA.

New International Airport Terminal
To coincide with the new long haul flights from Perth, Qantas as just opened a new terminal at Perth Airport. This terminal has world class facilities and will be able to handle the increase in traffic over the coming years.
New Train link between Airport and City
To make it easier for the visitors to get from the airport to the city and other locations in Perth, a new rail link between the city and Forrestfield is being built. The new link will be added to the Midland line and includes a station at Perth Airport.
Quokka Selfies for everyone
As part of the celebrations, attendees will be able to travel to Rottnest Island off the Perth coast to visit with the Quokkas and take their own Quokka Selfie. Just like these celebrities:
I will keep you informed of the progress as this story develops.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Perth.
