Over the last few days I have received a number of requests for clarification of the status of Winthrop Development Consultants’ products and whether they are at risk from the Java Log4J vulnerability that has been in the news recently.
The short answer is no.

An important part of the amazing Microsoft Dynamics GP community is the independent consultant.
Independent consultants don’t usually sell the Microsoft software or licenses, but they provide deep knowledge about how to setup and use the accounting/ERP software. They often work in conjunction with the customer’s partner of record (POR) to provide a additional level of support.
But many of them are not signed up as a Microsoft partner and don’t have their access to the PartnerSource Business Center or their own GP Registration keys.
I came across this great video by one of my favourite YouTubers, Tom Scott, recently and thought I would share it with you. Tom’s videos are well researched, interesting and presented with a good sense of humour.
This one is specifically about an incident where he made a typo while working on a SQL database and his advice about how everything went wrong and how to ensure it does not in future is worth listening to.
The Dynamics User Group, the team behind DynamicsCon, are making a huge effort to bring the Microsoft Dynamics GP community into their fold.
Not only is there Dynamics GP content in the DynamicsCon conference coming up on March 16-21 2021, including a session presented by yours truly on GP Power Tools, but now there is a Dynamics GP section and GP forums active on their site.
Back at the end of July, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Mark Smith from New Zealand (also known as the nz365guy) for his MVP Show podcast series.
This was the first time I have been interviewed for a podcast and it was a great experience. Still waiting for the Enterprise Software Podcast team… Hint, Hint, Bob 🙂.
In May, nine well known Microsoft Dynamics GP ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) will helping the GP Community to keep learning during this time of pandemic and working from home.
We are hosting a free virtual conference with two half days of presentations called the Dynamics GP ISV Virtual Round Up.
As my email inbox is getting filled with COVID-19 related updates from almost every company I have dealt with in the past, I thought I would not perpetuate the situation with another email.
But then I thought, would people be concerned if they had not heard from us? So I decided I would post something as a blog article instead, and here it is ….
I know that the world’s eyes are on Australia and bushfires at the moment, but we must not forget other charities that need our continuing support. Canteen Australia does a fantastic job supporting youth who are affected (directly or indirectly) by cancer, as we personally learnt in 2017. We need your assistance to help us raise some funds for this great organisation.
This week a forum thread on the GPUG Open Forum caught my attention and I felt I had to respond. The topic was the future of Microsoft Dynamics GP and whether moving to Dynamics 365 is an option.
The fact that the question was asked again has prompted me to write another article to help get the correct message out to the Microsoft Dynamics GP community.
