David Meego - Click for blog homepageWhile researching for the recent support case referenced in my earlier article, I identified another similar situation that I thought would be worth explaining.

In this example, we were receiving another Add-In Initialization Error when launching Microsoft Dynamics GP which was related to GP Power Tools and the WinthropDC.GpPowerToolsVB.dll or WinthropDC.GpPowerToolsVC.dll add-in.

Please note that a similar issue could be caused by any Dexterity product that also uses Visual Studio Tools addin dlls.

Even though the session title mentions the Support Debugging Tool (SDT), the session focusses on GP Power Tools. This is because the Support Debugging Tool has been discontinued since October 2014 and replaced by GP Power Tools.

David Meego - Click for blog homepageAs mentioned in my article #GPPT: GP Power Tools says it is unregistered on login, but is registered, an issue was discovered with Batch Posting Service Toolkit (BPST) where it would fail for live companies with a registration error, but only when called as a web service via Service Based Architecture (SBA).

David Meego - Click for blog homepageIf you have installed GP Power Tools (GPPT), firstly thank-you for your support, secondly you probably would have been presented with the GP Power Tools Feedback Survey dialog.

This dialog will first appear for an administrator user after two days for a new installation and immediately on an upgrade install. You can gdecide whether to go to the web based survey at that time or to dismiss the dialog for a period of time.

David Meego - Click for blog homepageYesterday, I received an email from a customer that I met in Reno at the GPUG Summit 2016 conference. He asked a technical question on GP Power Tools and mentioned that he had purchased the tool to be used once he had completed the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015.

The question I had to ask was …

  • Why wait till you upgrade to install GP Power Tools?

David Meego - Click for blog homepageIf you come across the problem below, please download the GP Power Tools Build 20 hotfix 2 which is now available from the Mekorma website.

When using the Configuration Export/Import window to import a configuration settings file created with the Support Debugging Tool into GP Power Tools, it will say that there is nothing to import.

This issue was caused by the changes to make GP Power Tools work with SQL tables rather than with temporary tables written to a Debugger.xml file. It happened because the table names written into the configurations settings file was incorrectly changed so that they had a _TEMP suffix.

David Meego - Click for blog homepageNow that GP Power Tools has been out for a little while and I have recently released a hotfix that improves the installer as well as fixes some issues found with the tool, it is time to explain how the installer works and answer some frequently asked questions.

Please note that some of the information in this article only relates to the build 20 hotfix (Last Modified: 19-Aug-2015) or later. David Meego - Click for blog homepageI know that I should not be surprised as I have been in this industry for so long, but after all the work and testing done prior to releasing GP Power Tools Build 20, we have still come across some issues that needed fixing.

You probably won’t come across most of the issues as they relate to problems caused when company databases are not installed or are offline for some reason. Anyhow, GP Power Tools is now smart enough to handle these extra situations.
