Installer Error: Microsoft Dynamics GP Process Monitor (DPM.exe)

David Meego - Click for blog homepageToday, we have an interesting support case where the installer for a Winthrop Development Consultants product failed to complete with the following error message:

  • A version of Microsoft Dynamics GP Process Monitor (DPM.exe) is currently running, please exit the application and click Retry or click Cancel to exit the installer.

The customer was not using the Microsoft Dynamics GP Process Server or Process Monitor.

To ensure the install works without issues, the installer checks for any processes running with the filename of the executable being one of the following:

  • Dynamics.exe
  • DPS.exe
  • DPM.exe

So, we asked the customer to check for those processes running on the machine.

They discovered that there was a service with the executable filename of dpm.exe. Once they stopped the ‘Dell Peripheral Manager Service‘, the installer was able to complete and then the service could be restarted.

Here is a screenshot of the error from a Spanish language system:

[Edit] This issue has been resolved in the installers released after January 2024, including:

  • Visual Studio Integration Toolkit Build 19.1.
  • Batch Posting Service Toolkit Build 13.2.
  • GP Power Tools Build 30.2

Hope you find this information helpful.
