#GPPT Adding Virtual Fields to Item Maintenance Version 2

GP Power Tools Build 32 added Custom Tables as a new feature to the Developer Tools module. Custom Tables can automatically create and maintenance SQL tables in company (or system) databases as defined by the definition in the Custom Tables Setup window.

This is an updated version of the #GPPT Adding Virtual Fields to Item Maintenance project which uses a Custom Table to store the data rather than the DUOS. Easy access to the Custom Tables is provided by a series of Custom Table Buffer Helper Functions which replicate how Dexterity table buffers work.

#GPPT Using .Net Math Functions from Microsoft Dynamics GP

A recent customization project I was working on using GP Power Tools required the calculation of a square root as part of some number crunching needed to work out material quantities on a Sales Order Processing transaction.

While Dexterity (the language behind Microsoft Dynamics GP) is great at accounting style mathematics (as per a standard calculator), it does not have advanced functions for powers, logs, and trigonometry (as per a scientific calculator). This means that there is no “native” method to calculate a square root.

However, Dexterity (from v14.0 onwards) has a .Net Interop which allows you to import and call .Net libraries directly from your Dexterity scripts. This example shows how to call the System.Math library as well as other advanced techniques, such as Custom Forms and Virtual Fields.

#GPPT Enhancing the Apply Sales Documents Window with Virtual Fields

This example adds filtering on an amount and/or a document number to the Apply Sales Document window when the Find window is used. as well as sorting the documents by date. The additional functionality can make it much quicker to find the correct document for a payment to be applied to, by its amount or by any part of its document number.

This customization also demonstrates some very useful techniques including:

using Virtual Fields instead of Modifier to add the extra fields we need,
using Triggers to capture a table reference to a temporary table,
applying a where clause to that temporary table,
using a where clause that involves more than one table,
adding virtual keys to the temporary table,
and manipulating the contents of the temporary table.

GP Power Tools Form Control is a “No Code/Low Code” customization tool for Microsoft Dynamics GP. It can be used to solve many requirements without any coding (or with some additional scripts).

Here is an example showing how you can quickly use Form Control to add a Virtual Field to display the Customer Status to every window in the entire Microsoft Dynamics GP application where a Customer ID is displayed, without needing Modified or Alternate windows.

GP Power Tools Build 31 added Virtual Fields as a feature to the Developer Tools module. Virtual Fields allow additional fields to be added to windows without needing Modified or Alternate windows.

Virtual Fields are implemented using a series of Helper Functions which allow windows to be expanded, Virtual Fields to be added and then triggers and scripts applied to use the new fields.
