In a Microsoft Forums post a few days ago, an ISV had created a custom window and a table to store parallel data to the Item Serial Number Master table.

Her goal was to use Smartlist Builder (SLB) to make a Smartlist to show the GP & custom data in one Smartlist.  That part was successful.

The 2nd goal was to make a GoTo to drill back to the custom window to display the Item & Serial Number (her parallel key) and display the custom data that goes with it.

I had a recent support incident where the customer was trying to update a field to a blank value using the eConnect serialization assembly and the value was not being removed.  Specifically, they were attempting to remove the existing value in the ADDRESS2 column of the RM00101 table by setting the string value to a blank value.  The reason why this was happening was really by design with the eConnect stored procedures.   If you do not pass a value, eConnect will use the setup in Dynamics GP to default the value if one exists.   This works great because then as a developer you do not have to worry about passing everything in with the XML document.   That would be painful to have to pass everything in the XML document for being fearful of having data being removed.

Recently, I have been getting a lot of customization requests for Safepay, specifically, adding information into the detail line in the safepay file.  Safepay customizations like that are pretty much all the same thing, no matter what field you want to add, so I figured I would share my integration point and how to handle these types of customizations.  I have done probably 4 or 5 of these in the last couple of months.

I recently had a case that I thought I’d share with you. A well known ISV opened an incident with Developer Support to help solve an issue at their customer site.

This ISV has an application that encrypts certain sensitive data in the custom application in the ISV’s custom table in their own Dexterity based window.

The complaint given: After opening the custom window and making the application perform the decrypted data, when the window closes and the Dynamics navigation shell has focus – Dynamics GP crashes with the “Dynamics Runtime has encountered an error and needs to close..” dialog.

Have you ever had a piece of functionality that is date driven that you wanted to automate a test for but couldn’t figure out the best way to control the dates in the system?  Then this post will be very helpful for you!  A common area I receive questions on when talking with partners and customers is around automating features such as MRP which is extremely date driven.  This post is going to cover settings in the Dex.ini and Keys.ini files that will help you set the system to specific dates and times.

I think the most customized window in VBA must be the SOP Entry window.

If the customization is not saving custom data for the header/line items, then it is adding custom logic based on document type and any number of other factors.

In all of this – especially saving custom data to a parallel table – the SOP Number is important as it identifies the document.  And, of course, to be unique your primary key would also include the SOP Type field – just like the SOP10100 table does in Dynamics.

Getting the SOP Number is easy – it is the string value from the window.

I wanted to tell you about a recent case I had where the Partner was trying to restrict the Microsoft Dynamics GP data they had selected with the eConnect Requester Setup Tool.

They were first importing some of their Sales Orders from an external system into GP with eConnect.  Then when they fulfilled and shipped the Order within GP, they used eConnect Outgoing Queue to make the updates available to the external system.  Their use of GP also includes manually entered Sales Orders and they did not want the updates to the manually entered Orders to be queued.
