David Meego - Click for blog homepageHere are a couple of cool hacks that showed up in my feeds from Matty McTech (@SetupSpawn).

Did you know that Microsoft Word can create a QR bar code for any data you enter?

Did you know that the awesome VLC Media Player from VideoLAN can play streamed TV channels?

TLDR: Quick Summaries

To get Microsoft to create a QR Code:

  • Press Ctrl-F9 to create an empty field.
  • In between the braces type the command below, where the URL between the quotes is the data for the QR code to link to:

displaybarcode "https://www.winthropdc.com/home.htm" qr \3

  • Press Shift-F9 to toggle between displaying the field and the field definition.

To stream TV channels using VLC:

  • Download and install VLC Media Player if you don’t have it installed already.
  • From the menus, select Media >> Select Network Stream.
  • Enter the following network URL and click Play:

https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.m3u

  • Once a channel is playing, you can click the Toggle Playlist button on the toolbar across the bottom or select View >> Playlist from the menus to see the available channels and double click to change channels.

I found a number of the Australian free to air channels and the Totalmusic TV channels for listening to music videos… 😀
