#GPPT Form Control Prevent changing of Journal Entry Numbers

David Meego - Click for blog homepageGP Power Tools Form Control is a “No Code/Low Code” customization tool for Microsoft Dynamics GP. It can be used to solve many requirements without any coding.

Here is a real-life example showing how you can quickly use Form Control to prevent users changing the Journal Entry number on the General Ledger Transaction Entry window.

In Microsoft Dynamics GP, when entering a General Ledger Journal via the Transaction Entry window the Journal Entry Number field can be changed from the next number assigned.

A common business requirement is only allowing the next journal entry number as assigned to be used.

This requirement can be created with the Form Control module in a few minutes.

Locking Journal Entry Number

The FORM CONTROL GL TRX Form Control ID is limited by the Base Settings Resource Filter to exactly the GL_Transaction_Entry form in the core dictionary (0).

Adding the Lock Field rule will prevent the specified field being edited and the Set Focus to Next Field rule will move the focus to the first editable field after the specified field. No settings are needed at the Rule level other than limiting the Resource Filter to exactly the Journal Entry field.

Note: GP Power Tools Build 31.2 is required to use the Set Focus to Next Field rule. It is not supported in Build 31.1.

Downloading and Installing

Download the example settings, import using the Project Setup window (without any project showing, select the path to the xml file and click Import):

The Form Controls will be active immediately when the affected windows are next opened.
