#MSDynGP Improving Performance on Terminal Server and Citrix

David Meego - Click for blog homepageI recently had a discussion with a customer about GP Power Tools appearing to slow down Microsoft Dynamics GP performance during login.

In summary, GP Power Tools was not slowing down performance, but it was making users wait until all background login processes had completed before they could use GP. The option to display the “Please Wait” dialog is controlled by a setting in the Administrator Settings window.

This issue and the performance questions are discussed in the following article:

Also, the Setting up GP Power Tools article was updated to mention that this setting can solve issues but also can make it appear that login takes longer.

However, it concerned me was the customer saying that the login process was taking one to two minutes, which sounds really slow.

During another discussion with my friend, Arthur Achilleos, about slow login performance, he suggested that the cause might be missing settings on a Terminal Server or Citrix machine running Windows Server 2012 or later.

The settings in question have been shown to provide significant performance improvements to intensive processes such as logging in and posting transactions.

Please review the Terminal Server Fair Share settings as described in the article below from Lucas Miller from the Microsoft Support team:

This information is also included in the GP performance whitepaper:

The above link to the whitepaper is included in the Important Links section of the GP Resources Directory:

Thanks, Arthur for reminding me about these settings and Lucas for documenting it.

Hope this helps the GP administrators in the community.

David
